Last week did Borlänge receive a delegation of 15 persons from India and the aid agency Hand in Hand. The visit was a part of a SIDA financed environment project in which the Swedish consulting company Sweco and Borlänge Energi is contracted.
- In India it is well known that municipalities in Sweden are good at waste management, so we are here to learn more about how you take care of your waste in Borlänge, says Mr. Sudakhar leader of the delegation.
During their two days stay in Borlänge the delegation got the opportunity to visit the incineration plant Bäckelund, the department Sustainable development at Borlänge muncipality, the wastewater treatment plant, Ragnsells and Dala Specialavfall (Hazardous waste treatment). They also got the possibility to follow the waste flow in the society from the home to the recycling station.
In India is waste management not a prioritised area which results in serious damages of the environment and health problems. Waste is often dumped illegally or people try to burn the waste in open fires to get rid of it. Valuable waste such as glass, metals and so on is taken care of by scavengers (see the picture below).
