The purpose of the Social Services Department is to offer assistance and help to those who are living or staying in Borlänge. This help and assistance is provided in the form of benefits and, in some cases, through advisory services. Our operations are steered primarily by the Swedish Social Services Act.
The department is also responsible for implementing protective laws for children/young people and substance abusers. Although in some extreme cases the County Administrative Court (länsrätten) can take coercive action, the municipality is required if possible to achieve voluntary agreement about care and assistance measures.
Our activities are intended for three primary target groups:
1. People in financial difficulty
2. Children and young people who need support
3. People with alcohol and drug-related problems.
The department’s services also include: budget and financial advice, family guidance counselling, parental mediation and investigating matters of family law that affect children/young people.
