For many people today, recreation and culture are about experiences, enjoyment, games, fitness and a sense of well-being and community spirit.
The Cultural Affairs and Recreational Activities Committees’ key objective is to create the conditions in which a broad and versatile range of associations can blossom. We achieve this first and foremost by providing purpose-designed premises and facilities but also through direct funding. There are some 400 active associations in Borlänge today.
Society is constantly changing and young people’s interests are always finding new directions. We try to cater to tomorrow’s needs. And for young people who do not wish to join an association, there are youth centres. Our objective is to have a youth centre in every municipal district.
The Cultural Affairs Committee is responsible for the municipal public library, which consists of the main library, branch libraries and small library stations. We plan to develop the library into an information centre. The Cultural Affairs Committee also provides a wide range of cultural activities in the form of theatres, music programmes, museums, art exhibitions, etc.
The Jussi Björling Museeum and Ornässtugan attract some 8,000 visitors each year.
Despite a future of diminishing public expenditure, our goal is to continue providing a rich variety of recreational and cultural activities, and to seal Borlänge’s reputation as an arranger of first-class events, both national and international.
