Around 48,000 people live in Borlänge. The municipality is the largest employer with some 3,800 employees.
Borlänge is in many respects still a young municipality. It wasn’t officially recognised as a city until 1944. But there’s no shortage of history here. Borlänge was once a part of Tunabygden, an agricultural community which played a key role in shaping the history of this region. In the late 19th century it was transformed into an industrial town. Today, the picturesque Tunabygden is part of modern Borlänge.
